What Diwali means

Deepavali means “a row of lamps”. Homes are lit with the Diya (Clay Oil Lamp) and doorways are decorated with Rangoli (Sacred Floor Art) to welcome Maha Lakshmi, the Divine Mother as abundance and grace, and to remember Shri Ram’s return to Ayodhya, when the city lit every lamp in joy.

In Brahm Gyan (Direct Internal Awakening / Self-Realization) the lamp points inward. The saints speak of a light within every human being that no outer flame can equal: the Divine Light revealed in meditation by a perfect Master. Diwali is a reminder that the real festival is the day that inner lamp is lit, and every day of Sadhna (Daily Meditation Practice) that keeps it burning.
