The Science of Brahm Gyan

What is Brahm Gyan?

Brahm Gyan (Direct Internal Awakening / Self-Realization)

Brahm Gyan is the eternal science of Divine Knowledge: the Divine, revealed within at initiation by a perfect living Master and perceived directly in meditation. Seen within. Not read in books.

Shared by Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan under the guidance of His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji.

  1. दिव्य प्रकाश Divine Light
  2. अनहद नाद Celestial Music
  3. अमृत Holy Nectar
  4. सुमिरन Holy Name

Seen within, not read in books

The world seeks peace outside, and the mind remains restless. Peace is not an outward pursuit or an intellectual concept: it is a practical inner science, realised through Brahm Gyan.

Brahm is the Supreme, the Divine; Gyan is knowledge. Brahm Gyan is not knowledge about God gathered from books or reasoning, but the Divine itself revealed within the seeker. Spiritual experience, in this science, is direct, scientific and internal: nothing is imagined or visualised; it is perceived.

At initiation a perfect living Master opens the inner eye and awakens the dormant inner observer. From that moment the seeker can turn within in meditation and behold what was revealed, every day.

Awaken the individual. Transform the society. Global peace through inner science.

The four eternal pillars

Four inner experiences

At initiation the seeker perceives the Divine within in four ways. Each is described in the scriptures of many traditions.

  1. दिव्य प्रकाश

    Divya Prakash Divine Light

Seeing without eyes. Primordial inner light.

Direct activation of the Third Eye, revealing the primordial light within.

At initiation the Guru opens the divya chakshu, the single inner eye, and the seeker beholds the self-luminous Light of God within. It is not imagined or visualised. It is seen.

The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

    Matthew 6:22 (King James Version)

In the Bhagavad Gita (11.8), Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that he cannot behold the Divine with his own eyes, and grants him the divine eye.

  2. अनहद नाद

    Anhad Naad Celestial Music

Hearing without ears. The unstruck cosmic frequency.

Awakening to the primordial cosmic vibration, silencing mental chaos.

Anhad means unstruck. Within, the devotee hears a music played by no instrument, the vibration from which creation unfolds, and the restless mind grows still in it.

The Hatha Yoga Pradipika (chapter 4) describes nada, the inner sound heard in deep meditation, and the Sikh Gurus and Sant Kabir sing of the anhad shabad, the unstruck melody.

  3. अमृत

    Amrit Holy Nectar

Quenching existential thirst at the root of consciousness.

Tasting the inner nectar of peace, quenching deeper existential thirst.

The nectar tasted within satisfies a thirst no worldly pleasure can reach. Saints call it the fountain of life, because it nourishes the soul rather than the senses.

Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst.

    John 4:14 (King James Version)

The scriptures of India speak of amrit, the nectar of immortality, as the reward of the inward journey.

  4. सुमिरन

    Sumiran Holy Name

The primordial breath of life sustaining all creation.

Conscious connection with the unuttered primordial vibration sustaining creation.

The Holy Name is not a word spoken by the tongue or written in any script. It is the eternal vibration revealed at initiation, and sumiran is its unbroken remembrance with every breath.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    John 1:1 (King James Version)

Across traditions this primordial Word is called Naam, Shabad, Logos and Kalma.

The role of a living Master

The inner eye is opened, not imagined

Brahm Gyan cannot be learned from a page. The scriptures describe the Divine as seen with an inner eye that ordinary effort does not open: in the Bhagavad Gita (11.8), Lord Krishna tells Arjuna that he cannot behold the Divine with his own eyes, and grants him the divine eye.

In the same way, at initiation the Guru opens the divya chakshu, the single inner eye, and the seeker beholds the self-luminous Light of God within. That is why Brahm Gyan is given by a perfect living Master.

Divya Jyoti Jagrati Sansthan shares Brahm Gyan under the guidance of its founder and head, His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, on his vision that world peace begins with self awakening.

Meditation practice

Daily sadhna (Meditation Practice)

Initiation is a beginning. Each day the devotee sits in meditation on what was revealed, and keeps sumiran, the unbroken remembrance of the Holy Name with every breath, through the day’s work.

The sangat (spiritual community) practises together too. In the Sangat Portal devotees claim an hour in the unbroken 24-hour Akhand Sadhna chain and keep a record of their daily sadhna, and every week the sangat meets online:

  • Thursday Virtual Bhajan Sandhya & Guru Aarti: Thursdays, 6:00–7:00 PM ET.
  • Saturday Weekly Virtual Discourse: Saturdays, 1:00–2:30 PM ET.

Brahm Gyan: questions, answered simply

What is Brahm Gyan?

Brahm Gyan is the eternal science of Divine Knowledge. At initiation a perfect living Master, His Holiness Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, reveals the Divine within the seeker, who then perceives it directly through four inner experiences: Divine Light (Divya Prakash), Celestial Music (Anhad Naad), Holy Nectar (Amrit) and the Holy Name (Sumiran). It is experienced in meditation, not learned from books.

What are the four inner experiences of Brahm Gyan?

At initiation the seeker perceives the Divine within through four experiences: Divine Light (Divya Prakash), seen with the inner eye; Celestial Music (Anhad Naad), the unstruck inner sound; Holy Nectar (Amrit), tasted within; and the Holy Name (Sumiran), the eternal vibration remembered with every breath. They are perceived in meditation, not imagined or visualised.

Is Brahm Gyan initiation free?

Yes. There is no fee to receive Brahm Gyan, and satsang and meditation at DJJS ashrams are open to everyone without charge. Any offering to the Sansthan’s sewa is voluntary.

What is the third eye (divya chakshu)?

The divya chakshu is the single inner eye. At initiation the Guru opens it and the seeker beholds the self-luminous Light of God within.
