What Ganesh Chaturthi means

Ganesh Chaturthi, or Vinayaka Chavithi, falls on the fourth day of the bright half of Bhadrapada. Families welcome Shri Ganesha with red hibiscus, durva grass and Modak (Sweet Dumpling Offering), and the festival can last up to ten days.

Shri Ganesha is honoured first at every undertaking as Vighnaharta, the remover of obstacles, and as the lord of wisdom. The greatest obstacle, the saints teach, is ignorance of our own true Self; the Guru removes it by revealing the Divine within. A Sankalp (Sacred Resolve) made on this day is a promise to walk that path steadily.

A prompter for the sangat

Coming soon from the sewadars. The prompter will show the Sankat Nashan Ganesha Stotra as soon as the text is entered on the festival desk from a verified printed source. We do not publish sacred texts from memory.

Meanwhile, the Bhakti lyrics library has verified stotras and aartis with the meaning of every word.
