What Guru Purnima means

Guru Purnima falls on the Purnima (Full Moon Day) of the month of Ashadha. It is also called Vyasa Purnima, after the sage Ved Vyasa, honoured as the first teacher of the Vedic tradition. The word Guru is often explained as “the one who dispels darkness”.

For the DJJS sangat it is the day of reverence to Satguru Shri Ashutosh Maharaj Ji, who reveals the Divine within through Brahm Gyan (Direct Internal Awakening / Self-Realization). The Charan Paduka (The Guru’s Sacred Sandals), the Guru’s sandals, are honoured as the symbol of the path his feet have shown. The best offering, the saints say, is a life that keeps the Guru’s word: steady Sadhna (Daily Meditation Practice), Sewa (Selfless Service) and love for all.
